Decimal operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with decimal numbers.
They are used in money, measurement, science, and everyday calculations.
The key idea is place value. Keep the decimal point and digits in the correct places.
A decimal number has a wholumber part and a decimal part. The decimal point separates them.
For addition and subtraction, digits must be in the same placalue columns.
For multiplication, first multiply as whole numbers. Then place the decimal using the total number of decimal places.
For division by a decimal, multiply both dividend and divisor by the same power of 10 to make the divisor a whole number.

Definition: Decimal addition is addition where place values must be aligned.
